City of Bones Book Review

Hey,
I haven't been posting recently because I have been on holiday, and in result of that, I have not been reading as much. But finally, on the day the movie came out in cinemas, I finished the first book in 'The Mortal Instruments' series by Cassandra Clare.
City of Bones is a worldwide bestseller novel that is popular among teens and fans of fantasy/supernatural novels. The book was made into a movie adaptation in 2013 starring Lily Collins, Jamie. C. Bower, Lena Headey and many other well known actors. There are six books in the series (five of which are released, and the last one to be released in 2014) City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and the final one City of Heavenly Fire due to come out in March/April next year.
I was very excited to read this book since I heard so many good things about it, and the movie looked really good as well. I absolutely loved this book, It was thrilling, action-packed, fun and very exciting. The characters were great, the story was fascinating and the writing was really captivating. I have to say I was really hooked whilst reading this, I read the last 200 pages in 2 days, and that's shocking for me because I am quite a slow reader.

Characters
overall points.

  • Clary was likeable although at times she was a bit dense
  • Jace and Simon were quite witty and funny
  • Isabelle was hilarious, But from the trailer of the movie, I think they have portrayed Isabelle wrong, she wasn't at all Isabelle-like in the trailer, but we only saw like 10 seconds of her.
  • I really didn't like Alec, he was bearable near the end
  • I do think Valentine should have been in the novel more, we saw him for like 1 chapter, there was lots of talk about him but I just wished he was in it for maybe about 2/3 chapters.
  • Magnus Bane!!!! he was hilarious, I hope he is in the other books

Plot
overall points.
  • The story was amazing
  • I really liked how Clary was introduced to the Shadowhunter world
  • The Werewolf chapter where Luke is explaining the whole Valentine/circle story is probably one of my favourite chapters in the book.
  • The Hotel Dumort scene....AHHH
  • Some parts in the middle dragged on a bit, not gonna lie
  • I love seeing the relationships grow between Jace and Clary, Isabelle and Clary, and last but not least Simon and Jace, seeing them bicker all the time was so funny.

Overall Impressions

  • I definitely am going to pick up 'City of Ashes' now, since I really loved this book
  • I really enjoyed the supernatural elements of this book
  • The writing Style really captivated me
  • THE ENDING CLIFFHANGER
  •  There were so many shocks and twists, didn't see some of them coming
  • The last 200 pages kept me up until 3 in the morning
Overall I would give this book 4.5 stars.
Thank you for reading my review for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones book review.
See you soon.
